Katie currently holds a Tutti Viola position with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. After graduating with Honours from the Sydney Conservatorium, Katie became a regular casual violinist with the Sydney Symphony and was one of the Sydney Symphony Fellows for 2005. She is an experienced chamber musician having played for many years with the Sydney based Quartet Con Spirito and became a founding member of the Sydney Omega Ensemble in 2005. Katie was a permanent member of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra from 2007 before taking time off to work as Concertmaster of the Darwin Symphony Orchestra, a position she held for two years.
During her career, Katie has worked as a soloist, a chamber musician and an orchestral musician on both the violin and viola. She holds a Diploma in Suzuki Talent Education and has worked as a conductor of various primary and secondary school ensembles, as well as the Darwin Youth Orchestra and guest conductor of the Darwin Symphony Orchestra.
Douglas Coghill began playing the violin at the age of 7 with the hope of one day playing the viola. At 12, when he was big enough, he made the change to the viola.
In 2006 Douglas began studying at the Victorian College of the Arts. In 2007 he received the Brunner prize for the most improved string player. He was the 2008 winner of the John Gaitskell Memorial Mensa Trust Award. He completed his Bachelor of Music Performance degree in 2008.
Following his Bachelor degree, Douglas began studies at Australia’s leading music school, the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM). At the academy he performed in the orchestra, in chamber ensembles and as a soloist. At ANAM Douglas had the opportunity to work with leading musicians from around the world.
In 2012 Douglas appeared as a soloist with the Australian Doctors Orchestra. He has worked with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, and is a member of the “Opus House” ensemble based in Hobart. Douglas plays on a viola made by Felix Scheit who is based in Berlin.
Anna completed her Viola studies at the Queensland Conservatorium, obtaining a Bachelor of Music and Graduate Diploma in Performance. She has been involved in Australian Youth Orchesta projects including Berlin Philharmonic Soloists and Camerata of Australia, and was also an inaugural performer with the National Academy of Music. Anna has performed with the Queensland Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestras, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and is currently a full time member of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.
William returned to Adelaide from Cologne, Germany, in March 2005 having completed a Musik Diplom at the Hochschule für Musik Köln. His previous studies comprise the special music programme at Marryatville High School, a Bachelor of Music Degree with first class honours from the Elder Conservatorium and the Advanced Performance Programme at the Australian National Academy of Music.
William was a regular guest player with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra from 1996 to 2007. He has also been a guest of the Tasmanian, Melbourne and Sydney Symphony Orchestras. He was the founding principal violist of the Adelaide Art Orchestra and has been broadcast on ABC FM playing a concerto for viola and computer. In 2007 William became a permanent member of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.
Since joining the TSO William has been a regular performer for Virtuosi Tasmania and has also made a broadcast for ABC FM Sunday Live. He tutors viola for the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra and has also given chamber music performances for MONA FOMA and the Kegelstatt Ensemble in Adelaide.
